Sisters
Beach is a small town located twelve to fifteen minutes
west of the commercial centre of Wynyard, in Tasmania's
North West.
It
started life as a small "shack" beach but lately
has seen many spacious and quite expensive homes built here.
Next to Boat Harbour, it is probably the best beach along
the northern coast line of Tasmania.
It
is located within the Rocky Cape National Park and is situated
on the old horse trail known as the Postman's Track that
once formed the only connection between Emu Bay (now Burnie)
and the important Van Diemen's Land outpost of Stanley.
Visitors to this area may explore the many walking trails
or visit the indigenous caves.
Enjoy
outdoor activities such as fishing, swimming, diving, and
snorkelling or simply walk the white sands of Sisters Beach
and gaze at the magnificent crystal clean blue ocean.
The
children will enjoy a swim while you bask under the trees
at this pretty beach. many north west coast families make
this a "family rendezvous" location for family
picnics and barbeques.
Cold
drinks and ice-creams are other food items are available
from the local store and a walking track
over the hills of Rocky Cape begins just beyond the boat
launching ramp located on the far western edge of the township.
Birdlife is
abundant with kookaburras, wattle birds, hooded plovers,
finches, wrens and riotous yellow-tailed black cockatoos.
White-bellied sea eagles are regularly spotted and tend
to nest in Rocky Cape National Park.
Over 100 species
of bird have been identified and recorded by local bird
watchers at Sisters Beach.
The beach is
home to plenty of marine life so fishing and snorkeling
are popular here. Dolphins, seals and whales have been spotted
from shore at various times of the year and large rays have
surprised the odd snorkeler.
Sisters Creek
is home to platypus and the profusion of smaller creeks
hide an orchestra of frogs.
If you really want to
get away from it all at a prime beachside location, it is
hard to imagine a better hideaway than this - and best of
all, it is definitely not over commercialised!
An increasingly
substantial number of workers in Burnie and Wynyard now
call Sisters beach "home" and commute to these
other centres daily. What a lifestyle!
